There were balloons left over from a photo shoot I did with someone else a few weeks ago, and when I was cleaning up the studio afterwards, I had the idea for a self-shoot so the balloons didn’t go to waste. The shoot didn’t come as easily as just throwing the already-blown-up balloons in the tub & setting up the tripod, though. I wish! It actually took a day to set up & 12 full hours of shooting to get these photos!
First, I had to clean my tub & tile, then I had to clean my boots, then I had to do laundry because my model had worn the same socks in her shoot a few days prior, all the while my blood glucose monitor was going off because I kept going low from rushing around! So annoying! 😅🙈
Then the next day, I had to shower & physically get ready for the shoot by “doing” my hair & figuring out my looks. Then it took a bit of trial & error to get the lighting & flash settings correct, which is difficult when you’re shooting yourself like this because I kept having to carefully get OUT of the tub & not pop any balloons to look at what I just shot & adjust camera settings. I couldn’t figure out how to get the camera to connect to my iPad & my remote shutter at the same time so I could view shots in real time, even though I know they will! Frustrating!
I tried 3 looks with this set, the one you see here, another with just the pink bra & a nude one with a pink feather boa, which meant more precariously getting in & out of the tub while I changed or reviewed what I shot.
After 500 wardrobe adjustments, different poses, smiling until my face hurt & the constant wrangling of balloons, I ended up with about a dozen really nice shots!
What’s awesome about this photo set is that it would work with anyone, as long as they were physically small enough to fit in the tub like that. My tub & tile are white & the beauty of balloons, is that they come in every colour/pattern imaginable, to match any wardrobe. So this is the 1st real set at Sunnyland Studio that I can reliably offer clients commercially bc I can shoot it infinite times, any time of day or night! The model supplies the wardrobe/look, I supply the set & know-how to achieve photos like these. Insert human! 😊💕🌸🎈
(Very) slowly, I’m figuring this out! 📸🛁🫧🙏
